The fight for a cleaner, safer and better Butte demands vigilance from the people of Butte. After over 40 years of "cleanup" of Butte, it is clear that the "powers that be," both private sector and governmental, have protected the bottom line of ARCO and now British Petroleum by delaying, delaying, delaying in cleaning up Butte's more than 100 years of environmental degradation.
Butte folks, from the youngest to the oldest, need to engage actively in keeping the pressure on the EPA, the state, and Butte Silver Bow to drive British Petroleum toward a cleanup that is done rapidly and right! "People Power" through Butte Watchdogs for Social & Environmental Justice can keep the pressure on until the job is done right! We hope you will join the battle by becoming a supporter of Butte Watchdogs.

About
Us
Extracting ore from "The Greatest Hill on Earth" has helped sustain Butte economically since copper was discovered, but also made Butte the headwaters of the largest Superfund site in the United States. It is the moral and legal responsibility of the polluters (British Petroleum) to clean up Butte to the highest standards. Ensuring that Butte's cleanup is not done on the "cheap," Butte Watchdogs was created to make sure the people of Butte were not cheated out of the cleanup they deserve - either by British Petroleum or the complicity of local, state, or federal government.
Founded by Sister Mary Jo McDonald, Mick Ringsak & Evan Barrett (now joined on the Board by Don "Moose" Petritz and Erik Nylund), Butte Watchdogs for Social & Environmental Justice is a small, state-certified, citizen-based Montana non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the cause of social & environmental justice for the people of Butte-Silver Bow Montana, and the state of Montana, with a particular focus on Butte area Superfund cleanup – cleanup where Butte Deserves the Best!
